he new clubhouse is
finally
here:
formally
declared
open by
our
Royal
Patron, DYMM Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan,
on 8th
August
2009.
The
opening
ceremony
was held
in
conjunction with the ¡¥DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan
Shah
Silver
Jubilee
Golf
Tournament¡¦ held over two days. On the second day of the celebrations, 8th August 2009, the morning started with the planting of a tree at the entrance to the clubhouse building by DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan Shah, followed by the VIP Golf game, and ended with the Gala Dinner in our spanking new ¡¥Jubilee Ballroom¡¦ that same night. At the dinner His Royal Highness Sultan Perak officially declared the clubhouse open and signed the plaque which is now at the entrance of the lobby.
That it was a good job done was evidenced by the accolades galore handed out by the members and guests. For the Board Members it was a gratifying finale to a once onerous task.
Now comes the tricky part. No amount of planning can ensure that the buildings and facilities will, from the moment they are opened for ¡§business¡¨, be totally problem-free. And so we now start with the ¡¥fine-tuning¡¦. Some minor shortcomings are inevitable and the Management is busy rectifying the ¡¥errors¡¦ and resolving problems that arise.
In certain areas new rules and regulations have to be put in place, especially given that the Golf
Driving Range and the two restaurants are open to the public. This may necessitate making and
unmaking new rules until a balance is reached between what is ideal and what is practical. This
issue of the Tee Off will, therefore, have a whole bunch of ¡§do¡¦s and don¡¦ts¡¨ that members will
have to observe, but these have all been instituted in good faith, with the single aim of serving the
members better whilst making RPGC a premier club with an absolutely disciplined and cultured
membership. Some such rules, the abuse of towels in the changing rooms for example, seem
funny and unnecessary, and yet such amusing, if somewhat embarrassing, notices have been
mandated by the fact that some Members (mercifully few in number) have been known to
so abuse the use of towels. These rules are thus meant simply to serve notice.
By the time this newsletter comes out suggestion boxes will have been put in place at key locations, or will be soon enough, so that Members can give their feedback and help Management improve use of the facilities.
Since the opening we have seen an influx of (old) members; many who had so infrequently visited the club before are now seen more often. Add to this the fact that we also have a substantial number of new members and it¡¦s easy to understand that staff members sometimes have difficulty recognising some of the members. As a result Members are expected to produce their membership cards when using club facilities. Even if you are a well known, recognisable
personality you will be expected to produce your cards when called upon to so do; no offence is
meant and none should be taken.
Finally we welcome on board a new Director: He is Dato¡¦ Dr Abdul Rahman, the current State
Secretary and thus also the ¡§owner¡¨ (via SSI) of the RPGC. We look forward to his invaluable
input.
